Since he was a youth, Stanley Omah Didia (born May 19, 1997) has immersed himself in musical wells.

He goes by the name Omah Lay at the workplace. He began as a rapper before developing into an accomplished vocalist, songwriter, and record producer with a following throughout Africa.

He made his breakthrough in the music industry with the song “You,” which is still a favorite among fans of Afrobeats. At the 14th Headies Music Awards in 2021, he received the prestigious Next Rated Award.

Omah Lay’s Childhood

The Didia family has a long history of enjoying music. The highlife star Celestine Ukwu’s drummer was Omah Lay’s paternal grandpa. Stanley’s parents were therefore not shocked when their son chose to follow a musical career path.

He was born in Port Harcourt on May 19, 1997. He was up on a Marine base, therefore he is familiar with the hard life of PH city. When he reached adolescence, he put on a creative hat. He gave himself the stage name Lil King in an attempt to become the next major rapper, and he entertained his neighbors by freestyling rap tunes.

He chose to go from rap music to music production after losing interest in it, and he began studying some of his friends who were producers. He picked up the technique quickly and excelled at the game within a short period of time. He began working with up-and-coming musicians in Port Harcourt to produce quality music.

His heart, though, kept returning to the swinger way of life, so he made the decision to give it another go. He sat down to create the songs Do Not Disturb and Hello Brother, which he recorded and made available to the public since he thought he had the creative bug. It happened in 2019. By this point, he had changed his image and chosen the stage name Omah Lay.

Some record labels got interested in his work after hearing the tunes, which were fairly popular. He ultimately decided to sign with the Lagos-based company KeyQaad Records, which required him to leave the city in order to follow his aspirations.

Omah Lay was raised in a loving, though strict, home and had a very good education.

He successfully completed his primary and secondary education, scoring well on the SSCE and Common Entrance Examination.

Music Career of Omah Lay

After relocating to Lagos, Omah Lay started working seriously to create songs that his expanding fan base would like and relate to. He released the hit song, You, after keeping his fans waiting for a few months. It was a huge hit for the first single. Omah Lay was thrust into the spotlight by the song and rose to prominence as one of Nigeria’s brightest Afro-pop and Afrobeats performers.

Before releasing his debut EP, Get Layd, in May 2020, he didn’t let the fires of his fame die. The project supported the theory that Omah Lay was destined for further success in the field. The songs were heavily played on well-known radio and TV stations across the nation.

He became the preferred performer that brands or music fans engaged to play at events and concerts as his renown extended throughout the continent. Leading musicians have used his voice and poetry in their songs because of his distinctive singing technique. In 2020, he and Olamide worked together on the popular song Infinity. He was the guest performer on the remix of Gyakie, a Ghanaian female diva, after catching her attention.

He was a candidate for the Next Rated Artist Award at the 14th Headies Music Awards in December 2020. He won the prize in 2021 by defeating other top contestants Bella Shmurda, Tems, and Oxlade. He returned to his house with a brand-new automobile as part of his present award.

With his second EP project, What Have We Done, he ruled the musical airways for weeks before the year 2020 came to an end.
